My Project
It's State testing time of year again. Everyone is feeling the pressure to find success on Statewide Assessments. I have found that this group of students need that immediate support, incentive and sensory redirection to keep them on task and focused. A small part of this is their insatiable need for snacks! They are always hungry, and this has been a cause of distraction of focus.
However, when used as a way to motivate, snack as the reward, the learning seems to stay on track and focused more often.
The other point of issue has been overthinking or stressed out thinking. The anxiety issue has overcome some of my best learners due to test anxiety. Allowing them to hold and mash the squishee gives them that moment they need, or reminder, to breathe, calm down and relax.
My students are learning life skills to take with them as they move up to the high school. Knowing they need to keep themselves fed, is one strategy to learn to help find success in the pathway of learning once they leave us. Hopefully, the antistress squishee will not only help reduce their anxiety, but also serve as a reminder of the calming techniques we have taught them as well.
