Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a diverse population of students, ranging from honors to students receiving special education services, and English Language Learners who come from many different cultural backgrounds and educational needs. We are a Title One funded school, which means that students come from many different social and economic circumstances. I teach mathematics to three different seventh-grade classes.

My students are challenged to adjust to different settings, as the pandemic has affected their normal education.

Our city was very hard hit area from the start and still remains a very hard place for the students to be. To fully adjust, we must not only focus on math skills, but social-emotional skills as well.

My students strive to live like leaders and they are motivated to succeed. They take pride in their education and work hard to thrive in my math class. We talk like scholars, write like experts, think like innovators, and live like leaders.

My Project

I am requesting snacks my students need to be successful learners! This project is to ensure no student goes hungry during these hard times. Many families are suffering hardships from the current COVID-19 crisis and families of our students have expressed they are unable to afford food at this time. School is not the same and my students sit in one room all day as their teachers travel into the room to teach them different subjects. My three classes of students expressed a need for snacks to help keep them alert and motivated to learn, especially after they exercise and play sports in gym class. This project will help my students to have a snack to help them keep focused and learning successfully and have the energy needed before and after their gym workouts!

“Good food is a right, not a privilege, It brings children into a positive relationship with their health, community, and environment” - Alice Waters

It is difficult enough to adjust to learning after such a hard school year last year due to the pandemic, where most of my students were learning from home. Having a snack to help my students feel comfortable will put a smile on my students' faces. To also be hungry while working, is not the proper learning environment for any student. These snack items will help my students have the food they need to concentrate on their classwork and strive just like they did before this pandemic. Students did not have gym class last year so these snacks will help motivate my students to work hard while exercising.
