Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students come from every corner of the world. My students are all English Learners (ELs), and are a microcosm of Queens: they speak over a dozen languages and come from more than 20 countries. My students love being in school, which is what made this past year of remote learning so hard.

One of the long-term lessons of the pandemic is that we all need to take better care of ourselves - whether it is getting ample sleep or feeding our bodies with nutrients and fuel.

Returning from the pandemic, we are trying to better practice caring for one another in our classes. My students and I won't accept the old normal of running ourselves down anymore.

As adults, we know how a 15-minute break and a snack can go a long way toward refueling us for the next part of our day.

It is commonplace in younger grades as well, but for some reason seems to disappear in middle and high school. It should be no different for our older students. They have the same basic human needs as anyone else and this is a small one we can meet for them. They will come back with more energy and gratitude, ready to handle the next parts of their day. Please help make things easier for our hardworking language learners, and send us some snacks!
