Returning from the pandemic, we are trying to better practice caring for one another in our classes. We are listening to our students, and one of the most consistent complaints is how far away lunch feels on long mornings. We want to fix this by building in morning snack time and supplying our students with something to eat and a longer break. We do not have the budget to feed our students outside of lunch and breakfast though. As adults, we know how a 15-minute break and a snack can go a long way toward refueling us for the next part of our day. It is commonplace in younger grades as well, but for some reason seems to disappear in middle and high school. It should be no different for our older students. They have the same basic human needs as anyone else and this is a small one we can meet for them. They will come back with more energy and gratitude, ready to handle the next parts of their day. Please help make things easier for our hardworking language learners, and send us some snacks!
