Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a very large, urban, elementary school. We have over 1,100 students! I teach in an ICT 4th grade classroom. This means that there is a general education teacher (that's me) and a special education teacher in the room. This year we have a large group - 32 students. We are located in the Bronx, in a high-poverty neighborhood. Almost all of our students qualify for free lunch.
Our fantastic fourth graders are creative and curious.
They want to explore and learn about the world around them. My co-teacher and I want to be able to provide them with the necessary resources to help them learn and stay engaged. DonorsChoose.org is a valuable, cherished resource that helps schools in need.
My Project
A clean classroom can help cut down on germs and, therefore, absences. We have requested cleaning supplies, like Clorox Disinfecting Wipes and Kleenex Tissues which would be wonderful. Students are asked to help provide these supplies but often we do not receive enough. I buy these supplies out of pocket often - I have even been known to take them from my own household.
We also need a variety of healthy snacks ready to go can help students focus on their work and not their bellies.
Snacks such as, the Quaker Chewy Granola Bars or Synder's of Hanover Pretzels, will put a smile on my students' faces and help hungry stomachs make it until lunch time! Many students could benefit from having a snack to help keep them focused.
Lunch time is at one o'clock this and seems far off when your stomach is rumbling. It is hard to pay attention in math class when you are busy staring at the clock and counting the minutes until lunch.
