This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you ever go back and reminisce about your high school days? How many of you do that through a yearbook?

My students attend a low income high school in Texas and many of them cannot afford to put food on their table, much less a digital camera, yet they all LOVE the idea of a yearbook and magazine.

It is hard for us to complete a quality publication when we are limited on resources, which is why we need help. We need cameras to help capture the high school memories for these students for years to come. My students are great kids. They work hard and always want to go the extra mile to get the job done, but since my budget has been cut, my opportunities for them have been cut as well. I need cameras to allow them to express themselves in pictures. They want to make great publications, but just don't have the means to do so.

My Project

These cameras will impact these students in a way beyond description. Being at a low income school and the school that is looked down upon the most in our district, these kids feel forgotten about. To let them know that there are people who care and want to help them would mean the world to them. They deserve the help. These kids face adversity everyday and for someone to take time out of their day to recognize their efforts and hard work, would mean a great deal to them. They want to make yearbooks and magazines for everyone to remember, but the realize it is hard to do without materials. They are kids who are thankful with what they have, but know they could do so much more if given the chance.

Funding this project is something that would brighten the lives of kids, not only in my classroom, but our entire school.

If we have the opportunity to capture more memories around the school, we will help capture high school for all of our students to look back on one day. That is powerful. That is something you get to do, give my kids the same chance.
