Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The introduction of this course to our school will become a stepping stone for many students who may have few possibilities and may find in looking around and snapping a shot a source for inspiration. My biggest challenge will be to expose them to areas that are outside of their community.
My students are individuals residing in a low socio-economic environment with limited possibilities for success.
Nonetheless, they are enthusiastic, sweet and willing to absorb new information. They are mostly the first ones in their family to graduate high school and may not have the desire, means or idea of their next steps in life. My school has a safe and caring environment where students feel they can become part of a larger event.
My Project
By requesting a high quality Photo Printer along with Ink and Photo Paper to supply the demands for printing, my students will be able to enter art competitions and exhibitions. The higher than standard quality of the resources requested will be paramount for this goal. My students will be able to engage in displaying their creative minds through their observational skills with their hearts open. They will learn that by becoming active participants in their community they can exemplify the beauty in their surroundings as well as the needed areas for improvement. They will learn the diverse approaches to photographing events, whether for documentary reasons, commercial or aesthetic reasons.
My classroom will be improved because students will be able to have a reliable, good quality tool to promote their art.
My students were very enthusiastic when I mentioned that there was the possibility of introducing a digital course to our school. They are of the generation that loves to photograph their lives, so knowing how to do it creatively and ultimately artistically will be my ultimate goal. This opportunity will provide my students another path for career choices.
