SMARTer Math

My Students

My students are drawn to my school by their interest in the arts. The majority of them are Kinesthetic and visual learners. However, they have come to the school with a deficit in math knowledge needed for their grade level. Last year my math team and I were able to bridge much of the divide between what they knew and what they needed to know through some fun activities.

This year I want to incorporate even more engaging activities for my students.

My students had the most fun playing around in Desmos and Geogebra. While letting them explore it on their own is beneficial in its own right, I believe there is a better way. If I can get them more hands on and collaborative, whole class experiences, I know that they can start to see the magic and art that I know math to be.

My Project

We are requesting an interactive whiteboard to be able to show students many more math concepts and have them manipulate the material hands-on. As a whole class, we can discover how things move and change and students can teach each other as well.

In every math class, it is so important that students have a strong understanding of graphs and shapes, with this tool we will be able to ensure the whole class stays engaged and target their learning in a fun and hands on way.

I have one small whiteboard in my class. With this interactive whiteboard my students will be able to share and edit each other's work and display it so that they can learn from one another through their work. It will enhance the majority of activities in my classroom and give the students the opportunity a hands on approach to manipulate objects, graphs and functions.
