My Project

My group of second graders come from a wide variety of cultural and educational backgrounds. Many students are either above, below, or at grade level academically. This requires a higher level of differentiation within the curriculum so that all students are engaged during our whole group and small group lessons. According to research conducted by The Autodesk Foundation, project-based learning is linked to significant improvements in student success in areas such as test scores, attendance and classroom engagement.

My students need one laptop and a class set of digital stylus pencils to help facilitate the roles within project based learning activities.

When students use technology as a tool to communicate with others, they take on an active role of transmitting the information. The student is constantly making choices on how to obtain, display, or manipulate information. Technology makes it possible for students to think actively about the choices they make and execute. Every student has the opportunity to get involved either individually or as a group. There are a variety of roles within project based learning to ensure that all students are engaged. Students will work collaboratively in order to fulfill their individual responsibility within the project. Students will individually use digital slides to complete their own design and contribute to the group project. Students will work in teams to produce a cohesive class product. Teams will take turns submitting their work on a shared device. Students will participate in project based learning activities such as Build a Zoo, Plan a Camping Trip, Run a Restaurant, and many others.
