Smart Start in 2nd Grade

Help me give my students materials to organize themselves. They need poly dividers for their binders so they don't rip and fall out, and poly folders so they can last all year long.

My Students

I teach a classroom of energetic, eager to learn second graders that love hands on activities. I try to make learning fun by getting them moving, incorporating brain breaks, and allowing for student choice. The students I teach, 7-8 year olds, are sponge like because they are able to make remarkable gains during the time I have them in my classroom. I strive to have my students become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and kind citizens.

My classroom is comprised of students from every economic standing.

Boys and girls from various ethnic backgrounds and intelligent levels. We all learn to work together and treat each other as equals. We have a happy, fun, and kind classroom full of learning.

My Project

Starting out the year being organized is key in second grade. Each year I request the students to bring in a dry erase marker, a dry eraser, and a 2 inch binder that will hold all their materials for the school year. Each day we use this binder. Daily the students will collect their mail and will learn how to organize the papers into the correct divider because each divider is for a specific subject. Using the dividers and folders will keep the student's desks free of clutter, missing papers, and destroyed materials. The binders with dividers will go home every night to allow their parents to see what their student has been doing each day in school. Over years of using this method I have found that the regular folders rip and fall out within the first few months. The poly folders and dividers will last all year long. Not all students can afford to send in all the needed folders and dividers so I would like limit the burden on parents and have them ready to go at the start of the school year. I'm also requesting an electric pencil sharpener so the students can sharpen their pencils with ease. The manual one can be difficult for second graders to use.
