I have always imagined my classroom with a Smart Board. There are many benefits to having a Smart Board in the classroom. First, Smart Boards promote a more engaging and interactive class. Students will be able to get out of their seats and share their answers and show their work. Next, Smart Boards reach multiple types of learners. Not all students respond to verbal instruction; they need to see the work in front of them. As a math teacher, writing on the Smart Board will be helpful. Lastly, the visuals that I am able to provide on the Smart Board will improve my class and direct instruction. I will be able to draw math arrays, tape diagrams, etc., and allow students to draw on the board themselves. Face it, middle school math is not every kid's favorite subject, so a Smart Board will help bring in some fun and excitement.
My goals for this project are to close instructional gaps by dramatically improving the conceptual understanding, grades, and test scores of my students.
Not only will this Smart Board be used during my day to day instruction, but I also host an after school math club and tutoring. So, this Smart Board will close a multitude of academic gaps. Many of my students come from low income households, and they do not have such technology at home. I want them to be exposed to this awesome technology in the classroom.
My students are special because of their perseverance. In recent years, I have taught with class sizes of 30 plus students. In a classroom where we have had to be creative with fitting in 30-31 desks. Teaching 3-4 cohorts of children a day. Despite the barriers that are stacked against us, each day we come to school with a desire to get better.
