This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year my class has a lively dynamic that will require a lot of positive reinforcement in creative ways. Because of this, I will be implementing a reward system that not only encourages good behavior, but also teaches them about money and budgeting by using "classroom money" printed on cardstock that can then be used to bid on and purchase prizes. It's amazing what a little fun and a reward can do to engage learners in fairly routine classroom activities.

Helping students make positive choices with small rewards is the "secret sauce" to keeping kids engaged in their math and reading learning with a minimum of classroom disruptions.

I pay for most of these supplies and rewards out of my own pocket, so all donations are very much appreciated. These larger ticket items will encourage students to work hard towards building their budget.

My students are bright, inquisitive, and love a challenge. Many of my students come from disadvantaged backgrounds. In our rural district, most families work in agriculture. Over 80% of our school children are of Hispanic descent and English language learners. Most students participate in the free lunch program.
