We were getting very low on glue sticks, and it's so important to have supplies on hand ahead of projects. The kids are currently working on art projects to illustrate their writing and enter in the Sandhill Crane Festival Art Contest, and several of the art options involve gluing several layers of cardstock.\r\n\r\nThese supplies also come in handy in unanticipated ways. In fact, the glue sticks and cardstock were immediately useful when some of our middle school students needed glue and cardstock to put together their History Day board for their competition last weekend. It's incredibly helpful to have supplies restocked before we completely run out. Having extra pencils and pencil top erasers on hand is so helpful. I never have to worry about whether a student forgot their pencil because we have extra, and this lets us focus our time and energy on learning new things.\r\n\r\nWe use cardstock on a weekly, if not daily basis, to do projects and math activities. The index cards come in really handy for the kids taking notes.\r\n\r\nThe kids also have LOVED having new stickers to \"buy\" with their class tokens. It is because of you, that made this possible, and I am so grateful! \r\nEach day in my intervention room, we oversee 36 different small groups in reading and math for grades 4th-6th. We service over 140 students daily and progress monitor their growth. The students work to earn a \"punch\" on their punch pass for awesome effort and after a set amount of punches, they get to pick a prize. Students also get to pick a prize when they make their goal for reading and if they grow on their school wide tests. \r\nStudents work hard for the short time they are in my room and it is awesome that we get to celebrate with them and reward them for their efforts! It's amazing to have enough robots now that the every student can take time to explore their programming skills and learn new things. Going to a math competition is intimidating for many of our students. Starting out the day with a fun pencil pouch with special pencils, erasers, sharpener, and snacks takes the edge off and makes them feel supported and encouraged. We have over 150 kids participate over several competitions. So far, our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have gone to their regional competition. The 7th and 8th graders qualified to go to Masters (State). Our 5th graders go this Friday to their competition, and the 4th graders go in a few weeks. The tiny Guatemalan worry dolls were a huge hit as team favors to hand out at the robotics competition. They stood out as being something different and the perfect support for nervous students. They fit perfectly with the team's focus on Mayan archaeology and centering local indigenous people in archaeological research. They also served for great conversation starters. The team really stood out because of their enthusiasm for their project, culture, and reaching out to others.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the headbands ended up being the perfect addition to the team's signature pink hats. They were a fun way to make the hats look different while still being the same. They perfectly held items that students wanted to add to their hats, in particular a few worry dolls and print-outs of their favorite internet meme, which were also a part of their team theme (The Mayan Memers).
