Energetic, enthusiastic, and hungry to learn. These are my students! Most of the kids in my school are English language learners who speak primarily Russian, Uzbek, and Tajik at home and with friends. At school, they're excited to learn the English language along with anything else presented to them. Our school is K-5, and it's amazing to watch the transformation that happens throughout those years.
At our school, students' curiosity is nurtured, expectations are set, discovery is encouraged, and mistakes in learning are celebrated.
As teachers, we try to focus on the process of learning, not just the product. This mindset has driven our students to succeed far beyond what they could have imagined for themselves. We're eager to see what this year brings for our creative and determined children!
My Project
Many children need a variety of different tools and resources at their fingertips to engage in the exploration of literacy development. Small group centers provide a fantastic way for students to interact with each other and the materials while they strengthen skills needed to read and write. My project will provide a variety of opportunities for my students to learn and grow in their literacy knowledge!
"A-B-C, easy as 1-2-3" is not the case with all children!
In our Kindergarten classroom, we have 40 minutes of literacy center time. During this time, students work with other students who are on their reading level to practice and develop skills that will help them in different literacy areas such as phonics, rhyming, sequencing, as well as word and sentence building activities. With a high population of English language learners in my classroom, many students struggle with learning the English language and need a variety of hands-on tools to help them develop. Literacy centers are a great way for students to engage and learn!
This project includes a variety of different centers that students can use on a daily basis as they continue to learn and progress in their literacy knowledge. From letter sound identification and alphabet books to sequencing and positional phrases books, my students are bound to develop a solid literacy foundation that will help them on their continued journey of learning!
