My students need 1 iPad to help when we are working in small groups. There are 29 students in my class, 40% are special education/special needs students.
Help my students reap the benefits of technology in the classroom. Our school is located in Staten Island which was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. Some students lost their homes thus losing their computers. Some simply can't afford computers at home.
I teach 29 second grade students.
My class is composed of 40% special education students and 60% general education students. My school is a Title 1 school and several of my students do not have computers at home. We are located in an economically challenged neighborhood. Many have families that are struggling financially. There are several students that lost everything during Hurricane Sandy. In a big class of 29 students, arranging them into small groups really benefits not only the struggling students but the students that are excelling. My class is composed of students with a variety of learning styles and abilities. Reaching each of these children is a never ending goal. My students are hardworking and motivated, they just need the means and opportunity to grow and learn! The information and opportunity is out there, we just need the ability to access it.
My Project
I am requesting 1 ipad for my classroom. An iPad can become an essential mode of learning for my students. This iPad will be especially helpful for my students with learning disabilities. It is important that concepts are taught in an exciting way and that they have the opportunity to practice these concepts. An iPad will give them the much needed opportunity for reinforcement! They will be able to use applications to practice math facts, spelling, phonics and reading high frequency words. This will increase their reading level and strengthen reading comprehension. It will help when I am working with small groups which will allow these students to receive the intense instruction that they need. In addition, the iPad will also be especially beneficial to my students who do not have computers at home. In the world we live in, technology is an integral part of our society. Having the opportunity to use an iPad will help students in the future. It is the first step in preparing them for the careers they will have in the future!
I have been a teacher for 8+ years and times have changed.
Helping my students to succeed is my goal. In this changing world, it is important to find inventive ways to meet their needs. I truly feel that having an iPad in the classroom would be a life changing experience for them. They would get the opportunity to discover the exciting world of technology and see how it can help them learn! Please help me to help my students by donating an iPad to my classroom! Thank you in advance!
