My Students

I am a special education teacher for grades 9-12 in a small rural school in Montana. I strive to provide my students with as much one on one experience in the classroom as possible.

My students would benefit from a kidney-shaped table for small group instruction and collaborative learning.

In our classroom, we work in small groups across all content areas. By being able to work together in small groups students are able to share ideas and collaborate with each other as we are in a community where many students do not have parental support at home due to lack of resources so all work needs to be done in the classroom.

My Project

By having a kidney-shaped table in our classroom, I will be able to meet the needs of my students in a much more organized manner. We currently work at rectangle tables which makes it difficult to meet the needs of all students as we are a bit spread out and depending on what we have going on in the classroom, my back is sometimes to students working at other tables. A kidney-shaped table will allow me as the teacher to be in the center and be able to monitor each student and meet their needs in a more productive manner. A table like this will help me to lead multiple students at a time during a lesson and ensure that they are all understanding the task as we are all set up in a manner that is conducive to learning. A kidney table also allows students to easily work together and collaborate on assignments.

A kidney table will provide us a great area for small group instruction and collaborative learning.

A kidney table allows me as the teacher a way to easily monitor each student as they work on their assignments, provide additional help when needed immediately as I can see what they are doing and allow for students to work together and have valid discussions regarding the task at hand. I believe that a kidney table will allow me to meet the needs of individual students and allow for a positive work space.
