My Project
Getting off to a good start in writing is essential for early/beginning writers. I try to make sure the kids have developmentally appropriate tools to engage without becoming overly frustrated. We use pencils that are thicker than a standard #2 wooden pencil, use small golf pencils that help with control, and writing grippers that can be added to pencils to help with grip. We have the writing utensils, now we need some writing surfaces.
Using a slant board to engage young writers help them to have the proper arm and hand position, extending the wrist in order to write more legibly.
Writing at a slant promotes motor control when moving the pencil across and down the page. It also promotes good posture and gives a better visual distance for the child to work. We would love your support for this project. Thank you for your contribution!
