My Students
Our students and families speak Spanish, Mam, Tongan, Arabic, Tagalog, Karen, Karenni, Nepali and Chinese. Since 45% of our students are English Language Learners, we have a rich academic program to meet their language needs. Our newcomer program serves up to forty students in our community who have moved here in the last year and speak little English. We also have a rich African American student population that thrives at our school.
Our students reflect the neighborhood's diverse immigrant and minority populations.
Throughout the year, we have cultural celebrations to celebrate the histories, cultures, and accomplishments of our diverse student population. While 96% of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, we are rich in so many ways.
My Project
Our students strive to excel in school, and in after-school, they continue to set their goals and achieve! In our after-school program, students spend a rigorous hour doing their homework, before moving on to their elective course. In between, they also get free time! One of their favorite activities is to play basketball on our after-school basketball team.
We need new basketballs to allow students to play and have fun.
Basketball is their favorite activity out on our courts and I can't tell you how much it would mean to them to have enough basketballs for everyone to play (right now we only have about 5!) and practice.
