Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

While my SDC class has been training in softball skills for special Olympics (being hosted at our school), our sixth grade team have been preparing our sixth grade students to volunteer as part of their community service hours.

Community service events are so important.

The students will learn how it feels to help others. They will learn that our special education students are able to do softball skills just like them only at different levels.

On the day of our event, 6th grade students will be assigned to a special education class to escort, enter scores and cheer for students during our Special Olympics softball skills events. I will make them shirts to wear that identifies them as peer helpers with our school mascot and volunteer on them. These shirts will be a way for attendees to identify student helpers.

Inclusion and feeling included is such a huge part of our school. I would like to make these volunteer 6th graders shirts to wear at Special Olympics. This will build pride in our students and teach them about inclusion and people with disabilities. Thanks for considering my project.
