I am a fairly new teacher, with this being my first year teaching sixth-grade math and science learners in Buffalo, NY. I currently assist students of the Summer Learning Academy and have had the chance to meet many of the individuals that I will teach during the 2019-2020 school year. This group is inquisitive, passionate, resourceful, and eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge.
As each child in my classroom requires different levels of assistance, the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.
While fostering a multicultural classroom, I will incorporate a variety of learning strategies, instruction styles, and resources to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! These incoming 6th grade students are truly incredible individuals, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn this year!
Research shows that allowing students to move throughout the classroom by offering alternative seating choices, enhances student engagement. It allows students to have cozy sections of the classroom, where they can enjoy educational instruction and activities while engaged in small groups, guided practice, and individual studies. With wobble cushions and balance balls, students will be able to work at different heights, in different positions; "reducing the duration of sedentary periods, which research has identified as a danger to health."
It can be difficult for students to sit still.
By donating to our project, you would help purchase balance balls and wobble cushions that offer a range of motion, while allowing students to stay seated.
