When your house or work area is clean and orderly don't you feel better as you go about your task? My classroom is the same way. Right now, I have a safe haven for my student. It is an awesome learning environment. The only thing missing is safe desk chairs.
My students are awesome!
Many of them come from poverty homes. Each day they are eager to come to our safe and inviting school. My students love school. Many days they are sad that the day is over. With learning stations, science centers, math exploration all done with lots of songs and drama student enjoy the comfortable homey feel of our classroom. When student feel this kind of loving care, they build respect for the school, teachers, and other students. The chairs in my classroom are the last piece of the puzzle to make this a terrific place for kids to learn.
I am requesting 20 desk chairs for my classroom. Each student in my classroom has a desk and chair. The classroom is arranged in teams with tables pushed together to make a team. Many of the desk chairs in my classroom have a split down the middle of the seat. They are worn out! Many of the chairs have bolts missing and the whole seat comes off the frame. The split in the middle of the seat causes the most problems. When a student sits down it moves and pinches their leg. We have put tape on the chairs but with daily use it will not stay. A safe and secure learning environment is my number one priority. If a child feels that they are in a clean, safe environment, it is easier for them to focus on learning.
I call my project "Sittin' Pretty", because that is what we will be if we get these new chairs.
We will be able to sit down without getting pinched. I cannot say that learning will not take place without these chairs...it will. But, with new chairs, we are saying to these kids we respect you and want you to have a clean safe learning environment. These chairs will be used for years to come and make many kids happy and comfortable. Help us to be "Sittin' Pretty"!
