I have 18 student in my second grade class. Most of them live nearby in government housing. Many of them do not have books in their homes. Being exposed to books opens doors for children. Our school is a Title One school that has children from a low socioeconomic level. No matter what the level of income all children love to read when exposed to books. Being able to earn a book to take home and keep is a joy to them. Students share these books with their family,read them and pass them on to their siblings. Books in a home is a building tool to success in school.
