It is so important to thank anyone and everyone who helps educate our children. Students are successful because teaching is a team effort. Families and communities are so important to our kids. We are one of two city middle schools in our district and our kids are very energetic and creative.
Growing up in town can be very diverse and my students represent great diversity in language, culture, and their life skills.
My classroom sees 142 science students every single day, I have many students who speak more than one language, a range of readers from 2nd grade to high school, and for many of my students this is only their second true year of science. My classes together are 32 % ELL and IEP's and our school is 70% free and reduced lunch.
With all these challenges having a variety of ways to introduce science concepts which are non-concrete and vocabulary that is based in Latin is also a challenge. My students are working on literacy through all of their courses and enjoying Project Based Learning activities. Thank all of you again and we will see you around town!
My Project
Many students are asked to sit for hours in a day, standing is essential movement for many students and people. Students who feel the need to move will get up in the middle of instruction to throw away imaginary trash or sharpen a pencil that is still sharp just to get up. Tall tables allow students to move from side to side.
Being in middle school also can mean some really tall kids, standing and work through an assignment seems more grown up and allows these students to focus.
Trapezoid tables can be arranged together or moved around the room for differentiantion and better grouping. Standing is okay and very beneficial for some of us.
