Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 68 dancers ranging from grades 9 through 12 on the varsity and junior varsity drill team. Our dancers work year round as a team to perform at events ranging from football games to basketball games and even competitions across the state.
These young dancers are the most hard working and respectful individuals you will encounter.
Many of our athletes take on extra hours at work after dance practice to help cover the cost to be on drill team. Drill team/ dance is a place for these dancers to escape reality and enter into a world of team work, friendship, and creativity.
Drill team is not only about improving dance skills, but teaching our dancers how to work as a unit, learn to be accountable for oneself, and how to successfully take on responsibilities. I prepare our dancers for life after high school, as well as equipping them with proper dance technique.
My Project
The Varsity and Junior Varsity drill team are in need of some stadium seats! The teams will benefit from this project by using these seats to perform at every single JV/ Varsity football and basketball game. The stadium seats will be used to perform stand routines during the first-fourth quarter of each game. Between junior varsity and varsity drill team, 68 dancers will use the seats this year to perform stand routines at every JV and Varsity football game. The seats will be used to practice and perform the stand routines weekly.
The stadium chairs will benefit hundreds of dancers for years to come in our dance program.
By funding this project, the drill team can use money to fund other cost areas and can reduce the payment amount per dancer per year. Drill team requires many costs such as costumes, competition fees, field uniforms, practice wear, and traveling fees. Any way that a dancer’s costs can be reduced helps immensely.
