Help me give my students inspiration to say the English Alphabet loud, clear, and fun with a microphone. When they master this important pre-reading skill, they create and take home a photographic "picture dictionary!"

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My newcomer students are in Grades 1- 2, and come from all over the world with little to no English communication or literacy skills. For most of my students our school is their first experience in America (newcomers) to learn English -and for some it's their first time even being in school. Some have lived their whole lives in refugee camps. Some have travelled many miles in hope of finding a better life in America, and some have had parents translating for our American soldiers while living in war torn countries.
Our school provides free breakfast and lunch to all our students, and how meaningful it would be to provide an English "picture dictionary" full of photographs and words to learn at home.
Every day my newcomer students come happily to school wanting to learn, but it is hard to learn the English alphabet at home when their parents do not speak or read English. Just imagine how inspiring a new ABC book would be to a child trying to master this all important pre-reading skill as they settle in America. Please help them Sing it, Say it, Spell it - in English!
My Project
Starting a new school is hard enough, but imagine starting school where no one else speaks your language and you're already 6, 7, or 8 years old? You need to learn the alphabet fast and your English peers are already reading! You want to read too! But you have no books at home to help you learn the alphabet. You have not learned the 'alphabet song' when you were young. And, a new book? Wow! How wonderful it would be to have a new book at home to help you practice your English, and maybe help your younger siblings or parents learn English with you. This project will do all that. I will do the work with the students at school, and you can provide the inspiration to help them learn faster: a new book to keep. And, to have fun, why not use a snazzy microphone to say the English letters and words you have just learned?
We sing the alphabet, we say the letters, and then we spell new words, but my students, our newest Americans need your help to practice these skills at home by themselves.
Won't you help them achieve these crucial literacy skills by giving them the gift of a new book with photographs to use as 'picture dictionaries' helping them practice their English letters and vocabulary at home - and to help their families learn English too?
