SIMS - Water, Wind, and Solar Energy, Oh My!

My Students

My sixth graders have been very focused on world issues. At the top of their list is "How can we create a renewable energy without hurting our environment?" The Energy Model Building kits will enable my students to learn about energy problems, formulate questions, problem-solve, and connect with research in an exciting, hands-on way.

My sixth grade students are of mixed gender, cultural, and economic backgrounds.

Our school building emphasizes project-based learning in all subjects. My students are particularly interested in learning about science and its real-life applications.

My Project

The Renewable Energy Model Building Kit along with the Wind and Solar kits will enable my students to investigate what they hear about energy on the news: solar energy, wind energy, water energy. These kits will help connect traditional book-learning with the hands-on learning that makes everything meaningful to students. They will compare and contrast the power and efficiency that can be realized from wind-, solar-, and water-powered machines.

As a teacher in a project-based learning school, I am constantly trying to develop new ideas that will capture my students' interests while meeting the demands of science and math standards.

These kits meet my needs while challenging my gifted students. Science will come alive in my classroom!
