My Project

Simple resistive activities are a great way to build fine motor strength in my special learners. Pulling hook and loop fasteners apart and removing magnetic pieces from a surface increases finger strength and pincer grasp skills in my special learners. These skills are so important in every activity that my special learners are trying to accomplish.

Utilizing the magnetic sheets and foam pieces cut from my cutting machine and die cut machines make these finger exercises so much more fun!

We have used these materials in the past to make matching activities on cookie sheets. Having a child match these foam magnetic letters to the vinyl letters placed on the cookie sheet helps with name recognition and letter order of their name. My special learners think they are just playing with magnets, but they are doing so much more.

Your generous donation will provide my special learners with endless opportunities to improve their fine motor skills. Resistive activities work on the muscles that are underdeveloped in their hands. My special learners love the sound of the hook and loop material when it is pulled apart. They don't realize that they are working on building the muscles in their fingers and hands, increasing dexterity needed for writing, and improving their bilateral skills needed for fastening their clothes or cutting out an art project.
