My students need books in Spanish. Many students have come from Spanish speaking countries this year unable to read English books yet. I don't like having them feel left out!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a very energetic group of second graders who love to explore and learn! They are from a low-income Connecticut community with many challenges which they don't let get in their way.
They love to learn and show what they have learned in creative ways.
We sing or dance daily. We show kindness to one another and greet each other every day with a smile.
They often have obstacles in their way. Whether it be language barriers, having special needs, or not able to get the fundamental needs one has at home, but they always smile and they always try their best. They deserve the best!
My Project
These Spanish nonfiction readers will make a big difference in the lives of the students who come here from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Peru, etc... in my classroom.
Every year we get students new to our country who can't speak or read in English.
This year there has been a huge increase of Spanish speaking students due to the devastating hurricane. Having some Spanish books in my classroom library would be just one more small thing I can do to make their transition into a new country more comfortable. Having books in their native language will make them more comfortable and keep them reading while also learning to speak and read in a new language.
It would also be a great opportunity for Spanish reading students to read to English students and English reading students to read to Spanish students creating bonds of friendship and learning from each other. All students can benefit from having these books in my classroom.
