This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Trenton, New Jersey, is a sanctuary city - and this is amazing! Students from nations all over the world immigrate to Trenton with their families. The city, although economically poor in many areas, is rich in cultures and heritage from all corners of the world. We have a growing population of hispanic immigrants, most speaking their native language Spanish. Many of our students, both native and nonnative to Trenton, struggle to meet basic classroom needs each day. This means that it is extra important for us to make sure they have a classroom filled with both essential items that they can access at any time and exciting project opportunities. Their social and emotional well-being depends on knowing that they are free to use basic learning items in our classroom that will not run out and that they have engaging projects that learners of any cultural background can enjoy!
The materials I am requesting will provide our students with the opportunity to make small gifts to give to their teachers for teacher appreciation week - we will bake cookies and brownies to put in the boxes and fill out cards that the students can deliver themselves.
These materials will go a long way in ensuring our students have the opportunity to write their appreciation during teacher appreciation week that represent exciting learning opportunities that support their social-emotional learning. I am requesting these items for students to deliver themselves.
