My students question everything, wonder endlessly, and explore daily. They are always eager to learn new things and take risks while doing it. My students love to learn, which can be seen through their enthusiasm within their play based learning in the classroom.
As a program we strive to reduce or eliminate the educational barrier that could interfere with educational achievements in kindergarten and beyond for our students.
The children and families we serve often come from low income families and at-risk situations. Our mission statement at Head Start is to "support families and prepare children for success in school and life."
Each morning my students eagerly walk through the door with excitement and an open mind for learning and leave asking if they get to come back to school the next day!
My Project
Having the addition of a light table to my classroom will give my students an exciting way to explore concepts of not only light and shadow, but will give us the opportunity to extend lessons in math and literacy in a hands on way.
They will practice their problem solving skills as they share materials, space, and create structures.
They will work on their math and fine motor skills as they sort through water beads by color placed in the sensory tray. They will experiment with light and shadow as they place different materials on the light table to observe.
The addition, a light table will enhance the learning in my classroom for my current students and for all students that come through my classroom for years to come!
