Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach students who were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Many of the students are still dealing with the loss from the storm and are working on rebuilding. I teach middle school art at a school where 85 percent of students are economically disadvantaged.
I want my students to enjoy and use art as a way to express themselves and their feelings.
I want my class to be a positive place for them where they can have fun and learn to appreciate art.
My Project
For this project, my students will be creating T-shirts to show the artwork they make in the class. Their personal creation will be transferred and cut out of heat transfer vinyl to create a shirt that show their own artwork. The supply of T-shirts will give the students shirts to print on. The tweezers will be used to to take small pieces out of the vinyl to show the silhouette of their work to create a clean design. The mats and blades will be used to cut out the students' creations from the vinyl.
This project will highlight the practical applications of printmaking in our everyday life.
It will also allow students to take joy in showing off their artwork to the community.
