My students live in a community where poverty is high and crime is part of everyday life. When they come to school, they know they are safe! In a world where anything can happen, it is up to the teacher to not only teach academics, but also life skills.
My third grades walk into class with smiles beaming across their faces and energy to grow as learners.
My students are working on establishing a growth mindset. They are becoming passionate about their individual learning goals and setting the bar high. No one gives up on learning!!
Having a class set of whiteboards and sheet sleeves with allow each student the ability to practice and respond immediately in a whole group, small group, partner, or individual setting. There is no better way to practice and learn a new concept then a hands on experience. Solving math problems in real time with the teacher, learning new vocabulary, and spelling words are all ways in which students will utilize these new materials.
Sheet sleeves, or paper protectors, are a great way to reduce the use of paper while allowing students to still write and solve problems.
They can easily be wiped off and the sheet can be used over and over again. I plan to use these with math games, scavenger hunts, and literacy stations.
My students also need a fraction tower game to help them develop their fractional understanding.
