This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As Tom Cruise said in Jerry McGuire: "SHOW ME THE MONEY!" My students do not have much opportunity to work with real money and I need to bring the concepts alive for them.
My students often do not have the opportunity to work with much real money and do not really understand the value of coins or bills.
They need the chance to get their hands on good replicas of money and to play games and do activities that will help them to understand the value of the coins in our money system and the bills. These are life skills! They need to know if someone is cheating them, but as it stands, they have no idea how much a dime is worth.
My Project
The "SHOW ME THE MONEY" resources are great! They are a combination of hands-on manipulatives, activities and games that all revolve around money. These resources will help them not only to count money, but to understand its value, worth and how to use it. The cash register will help my students learn how to make change in a fun, playful way. The coins will be given to each student so that they can make various amounts and learn how to count out change. My students need a chance at learning about our money system!
What is more important than understanding finances?
To begin that task, my students need to master the skills of: identifying coins and bills; understanding the value of each; learning to make change; and understanding whether they are receiving correct change. These "SHOW ME THE MONEY" resources will allow all of this and more, and I am so hopeful that some big-hearted donors will realize the importance of these skills and resources.
