This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in an amazing blue collar urban community in the heart of Indiana. I teach an incredibly strong group of high school students. They are always striving to makes us proud.

The average household for a family of 4 under $40,000 so what they lack in financial resources they make up for in other support for the school.

In Indiana there is an old saying that says if you don't like the weather wait 10 minutes for it to change. Having the proper shoes and clothes for Indiana weather can be a real challenge.

My Project

As the weather gets cold and wet the needs of our students becoming even more glaring. I had a student come into class last week with the bottom of his shoes falling off. Many of our students walk a significant distance to get to school or a bus stop.

Without good shoes getting an education becomes difficult to impossible.

This is why I asking for these new shoes. What seems like something so simple has so much impact. These shoes will eliminate a barrier for our students to come to school. More importantly it opens doors for their future. Thank you for helping my students become as much as possible.
