Our class will be together again for a second year. I am "looping" with my class from second to third grade. We have a wonderful family feel, and this will only help our classroom build stronger relationships by staying together.
My thoughtful students love to use technology, collaborate, and think with a growth mindset, and we celebrate success.
We love working with other classrooms and finding ways to creatively collaborate with others. We welcome and leave our door open to ideas and experiencing new ways to learn.
My students know that you don't have to be perfect. We are all involved in the process of learning. We aim for excellence and celebrate growth. We are a family who encourages and supports one another.
My Project
This year my 2nd graders became my 3rd graders. As they move up in grade level, they increase responsibility and maturity. We began the year with a blank classroom, and the decisions were being made with them. I asked them: What do you need? What do you want?
My students know a lot is required of them, but they appreciate that they are being asked what they need and want in their classroom.
They shared that they feel valued and that their needs matter.
The students shared they needed choices for sitting. They shared the difficulty of sitting still and building the stamina that is required of them this year. With the stools and balance seating, they feel they can stay focused and not have to sit completely still. At snack time, they agreed their snacks should be healthy to keep them focused and engaged. Many shared that they wish I could provide snacks for those who do not have them. With this project, I will be able to offer healthy alternatives to the unhealthy snacks they bring in, or for the students whose families can't afford snacks, I can provide it for them. When we are able to go outside, many asked if we could get more equipment such as balls and jump ropes to give them more choices in what they do. I will be able to make sure they have 60 minutes of activity each day and students will be engaged in fun activities with tools they chose. The students know much is required and they want to be equipped to do their best with a healthy active lifestyle.
