Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am lucky to teach art to every student in the building which adds up to more than 500 students in a high-poverty public school. This includes First through Fifth grade classes, including bilingual classes and self-contained special needs. We are 85% low income, so all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Our school is located in a predominantly Spanish-speaking community with 50% of students being English Language Learners and 80% of students speaking Spanish at home.
My Project
I am looking to purchase some new items for my classroom to encourage creativity and student choice. Right now my students are in need of individual pencil sharpeners and a new paper organizer for our classroom.
I am requesting pencil sharpeners because it will allow them to sharpen colored pencils themselves when working on their projects.
This will save time and allow them to use their class time more efficiently. I am also asking for a construction paper organizer. The one we currently have is broken and will no longer hold the paper. This makes it difficult to keep things organized and allow students to be self-sufficient and get their own paper. Having these additional supplies will help our classroom stay productive and organized!
