My Project

My 2nd graders love to get their pencils out, ready to do their work! The problem we have is that we do not have an electric pencil sharpener. As a result, we use have to use the little plastic, inexpensive ones.. Using these is the best thing I know to do, but it leads to disaster with a cranky teacher and frustrated learners! I get cranky because of the time it takes to sharpen pencils with these and because students often leave shavings in their desks or on the floor. Students get frustrated because the sharpeners don't work! The little plastic hand sharpeners chew up a pencil right before our eyes. It typically eats half of a new pencil to get it sharpened for one use. Often, one use doesn't even happen because when the student tries to use the pencil, it breaks immediately! When this happens multiple times throughout the day for multiple students, learning gets lost because of the time it takes to get a working pencil, and work doesn't get done because all of our pencils are broken.

Having a good, reliable electric pencil sharpener would alleviate these problems.

Harmony would be restored to our classroom, our schedule would no longer be interrupted, and students would be ready to get to work on time with perfectly sharpened pencils!
