My students need sharp pencils! And to be able to pass a stapler around the room without stopping to refill it. Plus, the HDMI cable and clicker will significantly upgrade the technology in our classroom.
My students are FUN! They are high energy teenagers from countries around the world, like the Dominican Republic, Sudan, and Burma. And as typical teens, they love chatting, getting to know each other, and sharing personal cultural experiences. And I love being a part of their lives.
Our ESL class runs the same as a traditional English class, with a curriculum that engages them in high-order reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
As we work to hone their English Language skills, we also build a sense of community and a safe place for learning.
Doesn't it feel oddly satisfying to press your finger into a finely sharpened pencil? I want that for my students. When I moved into my classroom, there was no pencil sharpener. I ordered one from our book room, eventually receiving it, and then putting in a work request to have it installed. I followed up several times, until a principal finally came in with his home drill to affix it. Unfortunately, it only works if I crank it in one direction and turn the pencil in the opposite. An electric sharpener is one little thing to a smoother, calmer classroom.
Many of my students come from refugee camps that aren't supplied like a traditional school.
Refilling a stapler (much less pronouncing the word "staple") isn't as seamless as it is for native students. Plus, this stapler is environmentally friendly zero-waste!
The cable & clicker will be used in a variety of ways. My classroom does have a projector, but it uses a 20 foot cable to attach to my desktop. The cable will allow connection to Apple devices. The clicker will be used by both me and my students when we give whole group presentation or instruction.
