My Project
I love that my students are kind hearted and generous. On many occasions, I have witnessed a student give up something they have so that another student would not be left out. Students are so excited to work on a project that will be given to someone else. The students use creativity and visualization when choosing colors of scrubby yarn and cotton yarn. I have seen students choose colors that I never would have combined. Giving students choice in their learning increases engagement. The next step is looming. Students use patterns to create a scrubby. Using fine motor skills involving grasping will increase dexterity. Patience and persistence are involved in the process. Following directions is a part of the process. Students will make mistakes and sometimes have to restart the project. Fixing mistakes will help them as they teach other students how to loom. My class has already taught a class of high schoolers how to loom hats and scarves. They are so excited to be able to teach them how to loom scrubbies. In the teaching process, students will give accurate directions to others and work together. I have seen so many students glow with a sense of pride upon completing the project.
