Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students haven't followed the traditional path towards a high school diploma. Our population deals with overwhelming poverty and many students work to support their families. When they decide to stay for Study Hall, we wanted to be able to offer them a meal and the opportunity to take one home. Thus the Sharing Pantry came into being. Many of our students only receive consistent meals at school because of our district's universal free and reduced meals.

By stocking our Sharing Pantry, many students will be able to supplement their diet which in turns fuels their ability to learn and participate effectively.

Even with their backgrounds, many students have expressed wanting to add to the Sharing Pantry and help it continue to grow. They get excited to see what new offerings there are and maybe even bring one home for a sibling or family member. This also helps alleviate teachers and staff from supplying the pantry themselves, too.
