This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Dance is not a subject matter that is present in every school. Especially treated as an "Art" form, even though it is considered a performing art. Only recently could a teacher even get a single-subject teaching credential in dance. Prior to this, dance was lumped in with physical education.

I am fortunate enough to teach dance in a high school where students get credit in art for taking my dance classes.

I have been coaching at my alma mater since 2003, but only recently have been hired full-time to teach dance there. After countless USA National titles with both the dance teams and short flags teams, I finally am able to share my love of the performing arts with the general student body that sign up to take one of my courses during the regular school day.

I do not have any technology in the room I teach in, so I brought an old tv from home, connect my laptop to it and have the kids sit as close as possible so I can share video and film of dance. This exposes my students to the many styles of dance in the world. Sometimes we watch performances, sometimes online tutorials in which I can expose them to many choreographers without having to have them physically come to our class. Sometimes I we watch the various shows in mainstream media that share the joy of dance: So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Starts, World of Dance, America's Best Dance Crew, etc.

I need this larger sized television so that I can effectively share these videos with my students, so the kids in the back can also see the movement as we learn choreography through tutorials.
