For my students, practicing outside on the black asphalt is as rigorous and demanding on their bodies as it is on their equipment and shoes. For years and years, dating back to the 1980's, what the team has done to remedy this is to use electrical tape for the tips of their flags and, more impressively and with great innovation... DUCT TAPE on their shoes and knee pads! Duct tape is such a part of practice, there is a designated "duct tape girl" who brings a roll to practice makes sure they have it accessible to the team at anytime. This is so as their shoes and knee pads get ripped up during practice, they can add a layer of duct tape to repair them. The team keeps this going until the shoes or knee pads cannot be repaired any longer with duct tape. Having these materials for the girls (the bags and tape) would help the girls focus on practice and defending their USA National title, instead of worrying about their flags flying off or their shoes or knee pads ripping apart.
