My Project

My kindergarten students will soon be learning all about technology when we engage in our language arts unit of study entitled "Technology at Home and at School". In this unit, my little 5 and 6 year olds will learn that technology is anything made by humans that makes our life easier and that can also solve problems. But this groovy teacher would like to add that technology can also fill our lives with lots of fun by sharing with her students a piece of technology from our past that brought lots of lively and musical fun into our homes. . . an old fashioned record player!

Imagine the reactions and questions that they will have when they gaze upon this blast from the past!

I can hear their adorable voices now saying: "What is THAT?" "What does it do?" "How does it work?" "Say what? . . .That's how YOU listened to music when you were little? No IPHONE?"

My kindergarten students will learn about how record players are examples of technology from the past. In our classroom, this record player will serve as hands-on realia in our unit study of technology. Not only can this specific record player play records, it also has a CD player and a bluetooth sound system so it's a triple-whammy blast from the past! It serves as a clear example for my students to see and learn how technology has grown and changed over the years.
