How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed? Our school serves high poverty students in grades K-6 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. As a result, we are consistently one of the top-performing schools in the state every year. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college.
In an effort to maintain this excellence in academics we are always looking for ways to push our students further so they can rise to their highest potential.
My third grade class is a group of wonderful, thriving students who have overcome many obstacles to get where they are. My room is full of students who do not or cannot live with their parents. Some are in group homes run by the state. Instead of allowing this to drag them down they strive everyday to rise. They show compassion and perseverance.
My Project
My students love to work on computers. They love working with all technology. In the world where they live, school is the only place where they can experience this type of learning.
The Chromebooks will give them endless opportunities for learning.
The opportunity to work independently on Wonders Reading and Myon Library will give them the confidence they need to be successful learners. My students will use the Chromebooks every day to do Envision Math, Wonders Reading, Myon Library, IXL learning, and Google Classroom. My students are currently learning to code and having six more working computers in my classroom will alleviate some of the problems we encounter daily trying to get enough screen time for each student.
