Our school is a small yet diverse Title I school in the East side of Tacoma. My students walk into my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for the day. Despite home life situations my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be at school learning and being successful every day.
My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with 96% receiving free breakfast and lunch everyday.
My students are creative, caring, and clever. They are learning to be friends, share, and build life long learning skills to better them as they continue their education.
My Project
Our school is becoming a GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) to support our English Language Learners which make up the majority of our school. GLAD uses a lot of manipulatives for hands on learning and pictures to support students who are not yet reading. As a kindergarten teacher, none of my students come in reading, so GLAD will not only help my ELL students but all students in my classroom.
We are going to be studying 2D and 3D shapes and pictures.
Books, puzzles, and manipulatives will help them build shapes and will be helpful while they learn the names and attributes of shapes.
This math lesson will add manipulatives to our classroom that I saw students in our demo love, such as the Magna-Tiles and the pattern block shape cards. Books that I can read aloud to the class that showcase shapes in real life will help connect their learning to the real world.
