My Students

Do you remember what is was like to do geometry with only a book and a chalkboard? My students need the real thing, shapes to manipulate, and see where they fit in the real world.

I work with special needs children in a public elementary school in south Georgia.

They are a motivated group who will do whatever they can to learn something new. Many times my students need to learn using several different modalities, whether it be seeing how to do the problem, hearing how to do it, or by tactile learning.

My Project

The resources I am requesting will change my students lives because they will see how solid and plane shapes are in our everyday life. They will not only be reading about area and perimeter, they will be using the manipulatives you will fund to learn how to find area and perimeter in the real world using real shapes. My students will be able to sort objects by attributes using the actual 3-D shapes. My students learn best by touching, feeling and manipulating objects in order to better understand them.

Donations to this request will leave a huge impact on my students who do not learn in a traditional way.

By funding this project you will be sending my special needs students out into the world with skill sets they can use.
