Our students come from a multitude of backgrounds, but many of them come from low-income homes. All of our students are on free breakfast and lunch. Despite their circumstances, our students come to school eager to learn and become better citizens in the community. Through our ambassador program, we have been teaching important social skills that many of our kids do not have modeled for them outside of school.
In the ambassador program, we meet with students on a weekly basis to work on eye contact, handshake, communication skills, leadership skills, and etiquette.
We understand that the majority of youth prefer to communicate through electronic devices, but they will need additional skills in order to be successful in a post-secondary school and career.
My Project
If funded, we will be able to take the first and second place winners of our school's Amazing Shake competition to Ron Clark Academy's Amazing Shake Nationals in Atlanta, GA. The funding will help to cover the cost of the two-day national competition.
While in the competition, the students will have the opportunity to showcase their communication skills in multiple rounds of competition.
Unlike most national competitions, the Ron Clark Academy has planned to hold workshops on communication and etiquette for any students who do not progress through each round. As a result, if our students are eliminated from the competition, they will still have the opportunity to learn from well-known leaders.
