I work in a Title I school that is highly impacted by poverty where the student's academic success is lower than that of surrounding schools not impacted by poverty. The students I teach are sweet, have a great desire to learn, and are hungry for success. They love to get their hands on tools and resources that help them learn. School is a wonderful and safe place for these students to be. The school has a high percentage of English language learners.
The resources that I plan to add to my classroom will make a significant impact on the students' learning and growth this year.
English language learners thrive and learn more when they have hands-on learning opportunities. The resources I would like to incorporate into my classroom will give my students a chance to make music and learn new skills. Making music engages students and helps them learn in new ways. I work with students from 3rd through 6th grade and these resources will benefit students in all grades.
My Project
The school that I teach at has been rebranded and is opening as a new Arts Academy this school year. With a new focus on the arts, I am gathering some of the best resources to engage these young students and instill in them a love for music while augmenting their overall education.
I will use rhythm to integrate language arts and improve student's reading and math skills, and song to help teach concepts to students in all academic areas.
Music opens up areas of the brain and sparks creativity in ways that no other means can. Please help me gather resources that will help me enhance my student's education.
