We are a classroom of 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students. All of the students have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. Many of the students are non-verbal or have limited communication skills. We work on pre-academic tasks, learning how to be independent, how to take a break and daily living skills. The students love to sing, look at books and do art projects. Every day the students either go to PE, music or library. The students rely on heavily on visual and environmental supports. As a classroom, We really enjoy going on outings and field trips in our community. We hope you enjoy looking at pictures of all of the fun things that we do everyday.

My Project
Have you ever felt your shirt tag itch the back of your neck, the waistband of your jeans too tight or your the seam of your socks be crooked? This can be really annoying right? Well, the students in my classroom feel this way almost everyday and for many hours. My students are experiencing sensory dysregulation. Their bodies just don’t feel right, they are uncomfortable all day long. To help children with autism calm their bodies and sooth their sensory system we provide the children with items that they can look at, listen to and touch. These items are typically called “sensory toys”. Having items such as stress balls to squeeze, kinetic sand to squish between your fingers, silicone chewelry for students to chew and an LED calming light projector to provide a relaxing atmosphere are all very important to help support children with sensory issues. There are many educational benefits for children when they are calm and feeling regulated. My students are able to focus better on their learning tasks and stay engaged for longer periods of time.
I am asking for a variety of sensory/fidget materials including a LED Calming Autism Sensory Light Projector, stress balls, and chew necklaces.
The materials I am requesting will support my students in a variety of ways. All of my students have sensory issues that cause them to feel “out of sorts”. To help my students regulate their individual sensory system, I provide different types of activities and fidget toys to help my students become more regulated and ultimately more happy.
