My Students
Located in our nation's capital, my Title I school serves the needs of a diverse community of students and families, particularly English language learners. In my current classroom, at least 6 different languages are spoken among all of my students, each of them equally beautiful and complex.
At the beginning of my year, it is difficult for my students to speak with one another because of the obvious language barriers, but as a family we develop a sense of vulnerability and safety, and together we learn to make mistakes and trust one another.
Through this process, I see my students begin to develop friendships, despite their inability to fully communicate through words. This is one of the most humbling, profound experiences to witness, and it cannot fairly be described by the limitations of my own language.
I am proud to serve my students, and will continue to work with my families to improve the well being of all people in fair, respectful ways.
My Project
One of the greatest joys for children is learning how to read. In order to do this, kids need exciting, engaging, and classic works of literature that will maintain their interest.
Seuss is one of the greatest authors of children's literature, and my students voraciously devour anything he has written.
However, our current collection of Dr. Seuss stories is very limited! I am requesting several titles, both popular and unfamiliar, so my students can truly appreciate the depth of topics and subjects Seuss pursued in his writing. I want to encourage new class favorites including stories about The Lorax, Horton, The Cat and the Hat, and even Marvin K. Mooney! Please help my students get access to awesome books.
